About

You’re reading the personal blog of Oriol JimĂ©nez, where usually, but not always, you can find articles about PHP development and Web technology in general and also some of them focused on FreeBSD and Linux system administration.

Why this blog?

This is not my first blog, I started blogging in 2007 with PHPBSD.net, a blog focused more or less on the same topics than this one but in spanish. There is a big difference between this two blogs more than the language thing. This is a personal blog where I can post whatever I want, even if I write about any technology not related to PHP or BSD.

The other reason of course, is the language. Actually I still maintain my spanish blog if I want to talk to spanish audience, but I want a place to write for everyone, wherever you come from, and also a good excuse to improve my english.

And please don’t expect a high publication rate :) If I have something to say that’s less than 140 I’ll tweet it at @orioljimenez

About the author…

I don’t like too much to talk about myself on the net. But also to know about the author is one of the basic things that you should take care when you read a blog. As well as the publication date :)

For this reason here we go with a brief description about myself focused on my tech skill:

I am 33 and I am from Barcelona. I’m passionate about computers since I was a child, working with open source UNIX systems since 94 and focused on PHP applications development since 98.

Since 98 I was working for a wide range of companies from so many kinds. But all of them fit in two main categories: Software or Web Agencies and Internet Startups. Maybe the most remarkable, for their size and also because they are where I spent more time, are: Indra working for the ESA, Atrapalo and Grupo Intercom. In those companies I’ve played different roles around PHP development, from Backend Developer or System Administrator, through Software Architect, to CTO.

Actually I work at SPEEB as CTO and PHP Lead Developer which allows me, at least right now, to spend all my time doing one of my favorite things: develop with PHP.
